Former President Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris by 3 percentage points in a recent poll of voters in the key battleground state of North Carolina.
The poll, conducted by American Greatness/TIPP and the TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics, surveyed 1,037 registered voters in the state between September 11-13. Of those, 973 identified as likely voters.
According to the poll, Trump holds 48.9% support, while Harris has 45.9%, with a margin of error of +/- 3.2%.
Raghavan Mayur, president of TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence, commented on Trump’s position in the state, saying, “Trump looks solid in North Carolina. He is breaking out as the voting begins.”
North Carolina’s election process is also heating up, with overseas ballots set to be mailed out on September 20 to those who requested them. Other ballots will follow on September 24.
The original schedule for mailing ballots on September 6 was delayed due to a legal dispute involving former presidential candidate John F. Kennedy Jr.’s name appearing on the ballot.
Kennedy successfully sued to have his name removed, and the state Supreme Court ruled in his favor.
The poll was conducted after the first and only debate between Harris and Trump.
Although some pundits declared Harris the debate winner, Mayur noted that the debate didn’t seem to impact the North Carolina race significantly.
“Each state has its personality,” he said. “NC seems not to be affected much by the debate. At least it is not showing in the horserace data.”
Trump also holds an advantage among independent voters, leading Harris 46% to 41%, according to the poll.
The economy and inflation remain top concerns for North Carolina voters, with 67% identifying these issues as a top priority.
Immigration and border security followed as the second top concern, cited by 46% of respondents, while health care ranked third, at 33%.
Among those concerned about the economy, 86% said rising food prices were among their top worries.
In the state’s gubernatorial race, Democrat Attorney General Josh Stein holds a commanding 50% to 34% lead over Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson as they compete to succeed outgoing Gov. Roy Cooper.
