Over the weekend, Alabama residents were left in disbelief when a high school football player passed away due to an on-field injury. Fox News reported that Caden Tellier, a junior quarterback at Morgan Academy, suffered a severe head injury during a game against Southern Academy on Friday.
The network stated that although Tellier was airlifted to University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital, he tragically succumbed on Saturday evening.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Caden Tellier has gone to be with his Lord and Savior,” Morgan Academy headmaster Bryan Oliver was quoted as saying in a statement.
Oliver recalled how “Caden loved the Lord with all his heart and was a shining light every day he graced the halls of Morgan Academy.”
“He was a student, a friend, an athlete and, most important, a Christ follower,” Oliver continued before adding, “There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family.
The headmaster pledged that the school “will come together and support Jamie, Arsella and Lyla with our whole hearts” and “offer our deepest sympathy to the Telliers’ extended family as well.”
“I want to thank all the schools and individuals that have reached out during this difficult time,” Oliver remarked as he drew to a close. “Caden will never be forgotten for who he was and what he means to Morgan Academy.”
Michael McLendon, in his capacity as the executive director of the Alabama Independent School Association, issued a personal statement.

“As a small school, Morgan Academy feels this tragedy even more deeply, and the Alabama Independent School Association is here to offer any support and resources needed to support them as they grieve,” he wrote.
“We ask that our entire AISA family and the people of Alabama join us in prayer for peace and comfort for Caden’s family and the Morgan Academy community as they navigate this difficult time of mourning,” McLendon stressed.
Earlier this year, Time magazine highlighted the increasing worry about the possibility of severe head injuries in high school football players.
It referenced a recent study that indicated young athletes face the potential of developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) following concussions.
