President Donald Trump has announced his participation in a much-anticipated debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, set to take place on Wednesday, September 4th.
The event will be broadcast live on Fox News.
Following Trump’s selection of Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate, the Biden campaign reacted strongly, prompting a series of responses.
In response to the announcement, the Biden campaign reacted in a predictable and negative manner.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who had previously criticized Vance, has agreed to three potential dates for a vice presidential debate.
A statement was released by a Biden campaign official in response.
On May 16, Vice President Harris accepted the very first invitation we received from a television network to host a Vice Presidential Debate. She agreed at that time to participate in a CBS-hosted debate on either Tuesday, July 23 or Tuesday, August 13.
Since then, CBS has offered — and the VP has accepted — another potential date for this debate: Monday, August 12.
On July 17, when questioned about the prospect of a debate with Harris, Brian Hughes, a senior advisor to the Trump campaign, responded with a sharp and humorous statement.
He acknowledged the chance of Joe Biden withdrawing from the race and crafted a witty and cutting remark in reply.
“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention,” senior Trump campaign adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement. “To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.”
And guess what? Trump’s campaign was right. On July 21, Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race. About 30 minutes later, Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.” Biden said on X.
According to the Hill, “Former President Trump in a new interview questioned why he should debate Vice President Harris amid pressure from her campaign to do so.”
The news outlet added, “He first told reporters last week that he would “absolutely” debate the vice president, followed by his campaign declining to commit to a debate until she is the official nominee. Trump then told Fox News he’d “probably” debate her but could make the case not to.”
The fake news media swiftly latched onto Trump’s sharp retort, insinuating that he was attempting to avoid a debate with Harris.
On Friday, Jaime Harrison, the DNC Chair, declared that Kamala Harris had secured enough delegates to clinch the Democrat nomination, with the results set to be confirmed on Monday.
Despite not winning any primaries herself, Harris has emerged as the Democratic nominee after seizing all of Biden’s delegates, thanks to a group of elitists pushing her to the forefront.
Later on Friday evening, Trump took to social media once more to clarify his stance and confirm an upcoming debate. His post read:
“I have agreed with FoxNews to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th. The Debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant, and I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest.
The FoxNews Debate will be held in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a site in an area to be determined. The Moderators of the Debate will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, and the Rules will be similar to the Rules of my Debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his Party – BUT WITH A FULL ARENA AUDIENCE!”
