The Trump campaign has filed a lawsuit against Nevada’s top election official, alleging that the state is not doing enough to prevent noncitizens from being included on voter registration rolls.

The lawsuit, joined by the Nevada GOP, the Republican National Committee (RNC), and a Clark County voter, challenges Democratic Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar, the Democratic National Committee, and the Nevada Democratic Party.

In the legal filings, the Trump campaign argues that Aguilar should take additional steps to ensure the integrity of Nevada’s voter registration process.

This claim comes despite a 2021 review by former Republican Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, which found no significant evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Cegavske’s investigation concluded there was no substantial proof to support claims of fraudulent voting activity, but the Trump campaign and its allies now argue that her findings were based on a misinterpretation of previous U.S. Supreme Court rulings.

The lawsuit also references a Harvard University Cooperative Election Study, which found that 4% of noncitizen respondents in Nevada reported being registered to vote, compared to a national average of 2.5%.

Additionally, public court records show that 8% of one district court’s jury pool was disqualified due to noncitizenship.

The Trump campaign points to this data as evidence that noncitizens have been improperly added to Nevada’s voter rolls, noting that jury pools are partly drawn from voter registration lists.

Aguilar has rejected these claims, stating that Nevada already has multiple safeguards in place to prevent noncitizens or other ineligible individuals from voting.

He argued that any suggestions of a widespread issue are false and only work to undermine public trust in the election system.

Aguilar’s office told The Nevada Independent, “There are already numerous safeguards in place to prevent noncitizens, or anyone ineligible to vote, from casting a ballot.”

Despite these assurances, the Nevada GOP and the RNC have praised the Secretary of State’s office for removing over 76,000 inactive voters from the state’s active voter lists in August.

The GOP hailed these efforts as a positive step toward ensuring election integrity, especially in Nevada, where mail-in ballots are automatically sent to all active registered voters.

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign, RNC, and Nevada GOP are engaged in another legal battle aimed at preventing the counting of mail-in ballots that lack a clear postmark and are received after Election Day.

Election integrity starts with clean voter rolls.

That’s especially true in a state like Nevada, which automatically sends a mail ballot to every active voter listed on the roll.

In addition, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo is pushing for the implementation of a voter ID law, as the state currently does not require voters to provide identification in most cases before casting a ballot.

As election integrity remains a major issue in Nevada, both sides continue to clash over the best ways to maintain a fair and transparent voting system.

Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have also spent significant time campaigning in the state, highlighting its importance in the 2024 election.

It’s interesting to see the AR-15 not classified as an ‘assault weapon.’ This decision will likely spark debates on gun control laws and definitions of firearm types. How do you think this ruling will impact future legislation?
